Mission Aborted

So I have been stuck at home for what seems like an eternity!  Gess left on Friday and the snow has buried my car.  I walked to the bakery and store on Saturday, but besides that I have been in my house with only the dog.  And normally I would welcome this sort of opportunity for quiet and time alone...but I am going stir crazy!   

My grand plan was to go to work today.  I can't drive because my car is on the steep "hill" that is my driveway, but the buses are semi-running.  So...I get up, shower, dress, and head out to the bus.  I wait there in the cold for an hour and there is no bus in sight!  If it took that long before a bus even appeared, I was worried about getting into work and then getting stuck there.  So...I decided to just forget it and came back home!

Ughhhhh....so.....it's just me and Beauty again.  I need to get out my crafts!

More Snow!

It has been snowing all day--it seriously is crazy.  Seattle is not used to this sort of snow--we get it maybe every other year!

This was in my backyard--look at how much is on top of the aquarium my husband left out (don't worry--no animals inside)!

Snow Seattle Style

It has been snowing in Seattle and Seattle-ites do not deal well with snow! I know that you "snow people" will laugh at us, but the roads are really icy! Today I finally ventured out and Beauty loves it. Thankfully our favorite French bakery was open so I was able to get some coffee and a pan a chocolat. Yummm!  Here's a video of Beauty playing in the snow.  She was being much cuter before, but as soon as I pull out the camera she gets shy :)

Beautiful dinner

For Lisa Day Gessner took me to one of our favorite restaurants in Seattle, Palisade.  It was warm enough for a bit to sit out on the patio where we enjoyed the following amazing views.  The sunset was interesting because smoke from a fire in Oregon made it hazy.  I LOVE Seattle!!

Trip to the Seattle Art Museum

The Seattle Art Museum is featuring an exhibit called "Inspiring Impressionism" that showcases works of famous impressionists such as Monet, Renoir, and Manet (to name a few) and the classic paintings that they drew inspiration from. I have been wanting to see it for awhile, and it is set to end on Sept. 21st, so we decided to go this weekend. We actually bought a membership to the museum for the year, so hopefully I will be making many more trips there. The facility is really amazing.

I really enjoyed the exhibit. Monet is definitely one of my favorites, so it was neat to see some of his beautiful work in person. Surprisingly my favorite painting was actually a nude by Renoir. I think that it is the bold colors in the background along with the confident look of the model.

Also, visiting an art museum was on my list, so I get to cross something off! Yay! :)

Why did I put this on my list?: I love looking at art, but have only been to the Seattle Art Museum once since we have lived here.

How did I do it?: I really wanted to see this particular exhibit, so I waiting until nearly the last weekend and then made sure we went :)

How did it feel?: Great--I really enjoyed it!

Hammering Man

There is a huge statue of a man swinging a hammer outside of the Seattle Art Museum. I think that most locals just walk by without noticing him now. But the other day while I was waiting for my bus, something about her struck me, so I whipped out the camera and took a couple of pictures. I love Seattle

Seattle's Hammering Man, built by Jonathan Borofsky is 48 feet tall and weighs 26k pounds! Other Hammering Men are displayed in Frankfurt, Seoul, NYC, Minneapolis, Los Angeles, Basel (Switzerland), La Jolla (CA), Gainsville (FL), and Dallas.

Autumn in July

Monday morning Gessner and I were talking Beauty near Ballard High when I noticed that distinctive smell of fall and then heard the crushing of dry leaves beneath my feet. How could it be--it is only July right? I haven't missed the entire summer have I? Nope, it is in fact July, yet the trees at Ballard High are shedding their brown leaves. WTF?!
